Meng was responding to a New York Daily News report that Trump has appointed a longtime family supporter and event planner to run the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) office that oversees federal housing programs in New York and New Jersey.

Lynne Patton, who has no housing experience, has worked as a vice president at the Eric Trump Foundation and helped arrange Eric Trump’s wedding, according to the Daily News.

“This not The Apprentice; the federal government is not your personal patronage system,” Meng wrote in a letter to Trump, referencing the reality TV show Trump hosted on NBC.

“I ask that you appoint an individual who is qualified to oversee such a serious task.”

The New York City Housing Authority receives nearly 70 percent of its operational and 100 percent of its capital repair budgets from the federal agency.

Patton’s LinkedIn profile lists her specialties as “Public Engagement, Community Outreach & Revitalization, Strategic Networking, High-Net Worth Fundraising, Client Ambassador, Celebrity Talent Acquisition, Event Planning, Promotions, Social Media Strategy, Philanthropic Auctions & Tournaments, Public & Media Relations.”

According to her LinkedIn profile, Patton was responsible for planning "all major fundraising events" for the Eric Trump Foundation. She also provided personal assistance to Eric Trump, along with Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, that included calendar appointments, scheduling, media appearances, travel, expenses and event coordination.

Trump initially placed Patton as a White House liaison at HUD in February.
