Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) will drive an Uber in Iowa this weekend wearing University of Iowa Hawkeyes gear after losing a bet.
The junior senator from Nebraska, a fan of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers, made a bet with a journalist that the Cornhuskers would defeat the Hawkeyes in last year’s football game between the two universities. Iowa defeated Nebraska 40-10 in the November game.
Sasse referenced the bet in a recent interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper when Tapper asked about Sasse’s trip to Iowa and questioned if he would challenge President Trump for the Republican nomination in 2020.
“Let’s be clear why I’m going to be in Iowa this weekend,” Sasse said. “I don’t want to admit it anywhere, let alone on national TV, but Nebraska lost to Iowa last year in a football game, and I lost a bet. So I have to drive Uber in Iowa next weekend.”
“That’s the reason I’m going to be in Iowa. It’s about Hawkeyes and Huskers bloodletting on the football field and the aftermath of that,” he said.
that game still hurts... https://t.co/LgS2iasvX6— Ben Sasse (@BenSasse) July 7, 2017
Sasse has previously worked as an Uber driver in Nebraska as part of a “work tour” to better understand Nebraska’s job market.
