Gohmert: Mueller ‘would love to get Trump’s scalp’

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Tuesday that special counsel Robert Mueller would “love to get Trump’s scalp.”

Gohmert accused Mueller of trying to become a “hero of the left” through his investigation into potential Trump campaign ties to Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

“I have said since day one, since he was appointed, he’s bad news,” Gohmert said. “He’s out for a scalp.”

{mosads}The lawmaker also claimed that Mueller is willing to take down as many Trump staffers as he can in the probe.

“If he cannot get the president, he will … take a Mike Flynn, and it was kind of sad how that all happened,” Gohmert said, referring to Flynn pleading guilty to charges in Mueller’s probe earlier this month.

He also hit FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who has come under scrutiny by Republicans for possible bias in the FBI against Trump. Gohmert, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, was one of the lawmakers at McCabe’s questioning before Congress last week.

“He can’t go fast enough. Anybody who has that much disrespect for the Republican Party [or] the president of the United States — this goes way beyond just having a political opinion,” Gohmert said of McCabe.

Gohmert also called for a second special counsel to be appointed to investigate Mueller.

McCabe will reportedly retire in the coming months as he faces GOP claims of bias against Trump. He testified before Congress for roughly 18 hours last week.

Republicans have defended their questioning of McCabe, saying it was part of an existing probe into the Department of Justice’s actions during the 2016 election.

However, Democrats have slammed the move as an attempt to undercut Mueller’s probe.
