"We have record numbers of people of color in our caucus now and a record number of women," Pelosi said at the National Action Network Legislative & Policy Conference, noting the House Democrats of the 116th Congress will be around 60 percent women, people of color and LGBTQ people.

"That’s a stark difference from the other side of the aisle," the prospective Speaker noted. "We are America, we look like America, America is represented in the Congress very fully."

The incoming Congress will include a record 128 women, with 26 new women among House Democrats and 10 fewer women among the lower chamber's Republicans, Axios reported.

Among the new Democratic lawmakers are Congress's first two Native American women and first two Muslim-American women.

The new Republican class is overwhelming white and male, with only one new female lawmaker, the Washington Post reported.

The percentage of white men as a share of House Democrats is set to "decline from 41 percent to 38 percent" after the midterms, while the percentage of white men as a share of House Republicans is poised to increase from "86 percent to 90 percent," nonpartisan Cook Political Report editor Dave Wasserman tweeted over the weekend.
