NBC to shutter Breaking News app

NBC News will shut down its “Breaking News” service at the end of the year.
The service includes Twitter account with 9.4 million followers, as well as a mobile app and website that reports breaking news from around the globe.
General Manger Cory Bergman broke the news on Thursday on Twitter.
This is a breaking story I hoped I’d never report: NBC News has decided to shut down Breaking News effective Dec 31. /1

BreakingNews.com was acquired by MSNBC Digital seven years ago. It has approximately 20 staffers.
An NBC spokesperson tells the Hill that the company will do its “best to try and find new roles for each of them in News or elsewhere at NBCU.”
In September, Breaking News captured the top technology award in the category of digital journalism presented by the respected Online News Association.
