Politico White House reporter moving to NYT

Politico reporter Glenn Thrush

Politico White House reporter Glenn Thrush has been hired by the New York Times, the paper confirmed on Monday.

“We’re thrilled that Glenn Thrush is joining The Times,” the paper’s Washington bureau chief Elisabeth Bumiller told The Huffington Post. “He’s a premier political journalist, a master of breaking news and long-form story telling and a stellar addition to our White House team.”

The hiring continues a pattern for the Times. In recent years, the paper has lured away Maggie Haberman, Jonathan Martin and Alex Burns — all once political reporters for Politico.

Thrush was thrust into controversy during the 2016 campaign, after hacked emails provided by WikiLeaks showed him sharing full excerpts of stories in advance with Clinton campaign chief John Podesta and communications director Jennifer Palmieri, respectively, on two separate occasions.

{mosads}“No worries Because I have become a hack I will send u the whole section that pertains to u,” Thrush wrote to Podesta in April of 2015. “Please don’t share or tell anyone I did this Tell me if I f–k up anything.”

In another email that same month, a subject header in an email from Thrush to Palmieri read, ““pls read asap — the [Jennifer Palmieri] bits — don’t share.”

Thrush will cover the Trump White House for the Times, according to the paper.

He had been at Politico since 2008.
