"This is your moment to be counted," Scarborough told GOP lawmakers in a tweet.

The "Morning Joe" co-host added in another tweet to his 1.18 million followers that Republican lawmakers owe the president nothing in an apparent effort to compel them to speak out against the sudden termination of Comey.

Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, has been highly critical of Trump since he took office in January, calling him a "fake president" in recent weeks.

Scarborough and "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski were once accused of being too supportive of Trump during most of the presidential campaign, as the billionaire candidate called into the program on multiple occasions.

As recently as New Year's Eve, the longtime MSNBC duo appeared to be in Trump's good graces. They were seen at a party at the president's Mar-a-Logo resort in Florida. Scarborough said he and Brzezinski were there to talk to Trump about doing an interview on their show.

Trump has not appeared on "Morning Joe" since May 2016.
