An MSNBC host on Thursday shot back at President Trump after he disputed an NBC report claiming Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was on the verge of quitting and called Trump a “moron.”
“Sir, we didn’t need to verify that he called you a moron,” Stephanie Ruhle said on MSNBC.
“He did it behind your back,” she claimed.
{mosads}Her comments come after an NBC report Wednesday said Tillerson called Trump a “moron” and other administration officials had to urge him not to leave his post.
On Wednesday, Tillerson pushed back against the NBC report during an impromptu news conference.
Tillerson denied he had ever considered resigning and declined to directly answer a question about whether he called the president a “moron.”
Later Wednesday, the State Department strongly denied Tillerson had used the term.
Trump took to Twitter early Thursday morning to rip NBC News and dispute the report.
“Rex Tillerson never threatened to resign,” Trump tweeted Thursday morning. “This is Fake News put out by @NBCNews. Low news and reporting standards. No verification from me.”
