Dem lawmaker slams Fox News: 'We’re battling misinformation'

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) ripped Fox News as spreading "misinformation" about immigration after an encounter with a constituent.

Swalwell described the incident in a tweet late Friday night, saying that a constituent approached him and accused him of supporting open borders, citing Fox News.

"Scary. A constituent just confronted me and told me I support open borders," he tweeted. "I told her that's not true and I've never said that. She said '@FoxNews said you do.' "

"Guys, this is what we are up against," he added. "We aren't battling ideology. We're battling misinformation."

Swalwell's tweet came as thousands of people marched nationwide and abroad on Saturday to protest President Trump's immigration policies.

The marches were focused primarily on the "zero tolerance" policy, which has resulted in more than 2,000 migrant children being separated from their parents.

Trump has repeatedly criticized Democrats over immigration and accused them of supporting open borders. The president reiterated the claim on Saturday, tweeting: "Our laws are the dumbest anywhere in the world. Republicans want Strong Borders and no Crime. Dems want Open Borders and are weak on Crime!"
