CNN exec rips Fox News reporter for asking question after Trump attacked CNN

A CNN executive is ripping Fox News correspondent John Roberts for promptly asking President TrumpDonald John TrumpTrump rallies in Nevada amid Supreme Court flurry: 'We're gonna get Brett' Trump: 'Good news' that Obama is campaigning again Trump boosts Heller, hammers 'Wacky Jacky' opponent in Nevada MORE a question after the president attacked reporters from CNN during a news conference Friday, refusing to answer his question.

Matt Dornic, vice president of communications and digital partnerships at CNN, took aim at Roberts's question and his subsequent statement defending his actions. Roberts had defended CNN and NBC, saying that Trump's attacks were "unfair"

The statement from Dornic came after Trump dismissed questions from NBC reporter Kristen Welker and CNN reporter Jim Acosta during a joint press conference Friday morning with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Among other things, Trump said that CNN is "fake news" and that he doesn't take questions from the network after Acosta asked him a question.

"Let’s go to a real network,” the president said.

Roberts then proceeded to ask Trump a question without acknowledging Trump's hostility toward Acosta. The move swiftly sparked backlash from critics on social media.

Roberts said in a statement that the reason he asked a question was that “it became clear that the president wasn’t going to entertain a question from [Acosta].”

He added that he used to work for CNN, saying that Trump issuing "a blanket condemnation of the network as ‘fake news’ is also unfair.”

But Dornic appeared to not think the statement was sincere.

Trump has repeatedly attacked CNN throughout his time as president, and he has had a notably contentious relationship with Acosta.

That tension has extended to Trump's supporters. At a rally in South Carolina in June, the crowd chanted "Go home Jim" as they waited for Trump to arrive.
