Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott, The New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow and “The View’s” Meghan McCain are among the notable entries from the media industry in Variety’s 2018 “New Power of New York List,” which was released Tuesday.

Fox’s Harris Faulkner, CNN’s Van Jones, CBS’s John Dickerson and MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle also were named to the top-50 list, which includes essays written by other media members, politicians or celebrities praising those selected.

“[Scott’s] vision and innovation have helped create some of the most popular primetime programs on cable,” wrote Lachlan Murdoch. 

“Last year, Suzanne revamped the daytime lineup, adding more live news programs and expanding to 20 hours of live programming a day. She also rolled out a primetime schedule that introduced two new primetime stars, Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham. All of the new programs debuted at No. 1 in the ratings,” Murdoch wrote.

Scott is the only woman in the media industry running a news division or cable news network, added Murdoch, who on Tuesday was named new chairman and CEO of “New Fox.” The company, with a portfolio including Fox Sports, Fox-TV, Fox News and the Fox Business Network, is being spun off from 21st Century Fox completes its merger with The Walt Disney Company.

TBS “Full Frontal” host Samantha Bee wrote the essay for Farrow.

“Frankly, without the work of journalists like Ronan Farrow, I couldn’t do my work,” Bee writes. “And so, thank you, Ronan. Watching you hold powerful people accountable with your impeccable journalism is a tonic for these dark times. Thank you for your laser focus and tenacity. For being a catalyst for change. For working in the service of others.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden wrote the tribute to McCain, who will be returning to “The View” on ABC next Monday following the death of her father, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), in late August.

“As she began to speak, I thought this is too painful, this is too much to ask anyone to do. But then as she went on, I saw her strength grow. And as sad as the occasion was, I felt a small smile cross my face,” wrote Biden, referring to Meghan McCain’s remarks at her father’s funeral. “And maybe it’s because I had spent so much time with John in the Senate, had traveled so many hundreds of thousands of miles with him across the world, had heard him so often — that I said to myself, ‘There’s John. I’m watching and seeing and hearing John from that podium. Honest, principled, unsparing — and more than a little willing to make people uncomfortable with the truth.’ ”

“And when she said the line about asking her father what he wanted her to say in her eulogy and he answered: ‘Show them how tough you are,’ I whispered to myself, ‘John, old buddy — guess what? She just did.’ ”

Other media members from behind the camera making the list include NBC “Today” show Executive Producer Libby Leist and ABC “Nightline” Executive Producer Steven Baker.
