Fox Business host Lou Dobbs claimed Thursday that “millions of illegal immigrants cross our borders” and that “many” voted in this year’s midterm elections.
Dobbs pointed to a study estimating the number of undocumented immigrants in the country to make the claim during a segment with guest David Bossie, a former Trump deputy campaign manager and frequent cable news guest.
But the study offers no assessment on the number of undocumented immigrants who vote in an election, and Dobbs, an opinion host and staunch supporter of President TrumpDonald TrumpTrump defends indicted GOP congressman House to vote Thursday on holding Bannon in contempt Youngkin calls for investigation into Loudoun County School Board amid sexual assault allegations MORE, did not provide any evidence for his assertion that many of the undocumented immigrants voted in the midterms last week.
Dobbs said that “millions of illegal immigrants cross our borders, and many of them [were] voting in the past election that’s what, just a couple weeks ago, and having an immense impact.”
“Are we just sitting here, helpless against anyone who wants to cross that border, and to have their way with the American way?” Dobbs asked.
The claim from Dobbs echo remarks made by Trump this week in an interview with The Daily Caller.
“The Republicans don’t win and that’s because of potentially illegal votes,” Trump said, repeating an allegation he’s made in the past about various elections.
Dobbs based his claim on a September study by Yale and MIT published in the scientific journal PLOS One that estimates there are 22.1 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.
