"Is this Oval Office: SVU?" the Meyers account asked, alluding to the television show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," after the president mentioned several cases during his nationally televised address.

As of 7 a.m. Wednesday, the Meyers tweet had received more than 4,500 replies but just 167 retweets, with almost all of the responses condemning the joke.

"I’m sure that’s hysterical to the families of the murder victims the president just discussed," wrote Kelly, who co-moderated the first GOP debate in August 2015 and was on the receiving end of Trump's attacks for months afterward.

NBC's Meyers, a former "Weekend Update" anchor on "Saturday Night Live," is often critical of the president on his program, most recently arguing that his network and others should not air Trump's prime-time address to "repeat his lies."
