A decided majority of Americans believe "the news media do not understand people like them," according to a new analysis released Friday by the non-partisan Pew Research Center.
Overall, 58 percent of U.S. adults said they do not feel understood by the media, while just 40 percent say they are understood.
Republicans are much more likely that Democrats to feel that they are misunderstood by the media, with 73 percent of GOP respondents saying news organizations don't understand them. Fifty-eight percent of Democrats, in contrast, feel the media does understand them.
Sixty-three percent of Independents say they are misunderstood by the media.
The findings are consistent with recent polls and analysis on Americans' feelings toward the news media.
