The National Press Club is offering free drinks and tacos to the hundreds of journalists in Washington, D.C., who were recently laid off.

Major digital news sites including BuzzFeed and HuffPost announced massive layoffs this week after missing earning projections.

The National Press Club posted on Twitter Friday announcing the event at its headquarters in downtown D.C.

The bar in the National Press Club has long been a favorite hangout spot for journalists working in the capital, particularly on Friday nights.

BuzzFeed announced Wednesday in a company-wide email that it would be laying off 15 percent of its staff across the company, impacting roughly 250 employees.

Several prominent journalists took to Twitter in recent days to announce their terminations and search for new jobs.

HuffPost’s layoffs and elimination of its opinion and health-care sections came after its parent company, Verizon Media, announced it was cutting 7 percent of its total workforce, or roughly 750 workers.

Additionally, Gannett, a media company that owns dozens of newspapers across the country, announced several high-profile staff cuts this week.
