CNN’s Camerota on Mueller fallout: ‘Disheartening for people who believe in justice’

CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota said on Friday that a lack of action against President Trump based on the findings in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report has “been disheartening for people who believe in justice.”

The comment came as Camerota and “New Day” co-anchor John Berman on Friday discussed the fallout from the Mueller report.

{mosads}Berman pointed to an incident captured in the report in which former White House counsel Don McGahn recounts being told to fire Mueller by Trump, who denied he had made the request in a subsequent conversation with the lawyer.

“That sounds like obstruction of justice, and they won’t do anything,” Camerota responded.

The Mueller report detailed at least 10 incidents in which Trump may have obstructed justice as Mueller looked into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

But Attorney General William Barr, in a four-page summary he initially released soon after getting the report, said there was not enough evidence to pursue an obstruction of justice claim against Trump.

Berman said, however, Congress could get McGahn to testify, adding, “The only jury that matters in this is the U.S. Congress.”

Camerota then responded, “My point, John, and I’m sorry if I sound like they’ve broken my spirit.”

“That’s what it sounds like. I think that’s the goal, too,” Berman replied.

“Well, it’s worked,” Camerota conceded. “I think I am channeling many members of the American public who feel these past two years have been disheartening for people who believe in justice.”

“The reason I say that is because, you see in the Mueller report ample evidence laid out of obstruction, of what Robert Mueller considered obstruction, but nothing happens. You see violations of the Emoluments Clause and nothing happens. Nepotism, but nothing happens,” she added.

Trump is facing a slew of legal cases involving his businesses, which the president has labeled as political attacks.

He told Fox News on Thursday that he may try to block McGahn from testifying to Congress, which could further ratchet up high tensions with investigations led by Democrats.
