"We have been trying to get some of these Border Actions for a long time, as have other administrations, but were not able to get them in full, until our signed agreement with Mexico," Trump tweeted.

The New York Times reported Saturday that the deal Trump announced to avoid tariffs on goods from Mexico was similar to actions Mexico had agreed to in prior discussions, ahead of Trump's tariff threats.

Trump pushed back on the reporting and said Mexico "was not being cooperative." He added that he now has "full confidence" it "will be very cooperative."
