8.9 million watched first day of opening arguments in Trump impeachment trial
About 8.9 million viewers watched the opening arguments in President Trump's Senate impeachment trial on Wednesday, Reuters reported Thursday, citing Nielsen ratings data.
It's roughly 2 million fewer viewers than the 11 million who watched the trial on Tuesday, according to the Nielsen data.
The ratings include viewership from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST on ABC, CNN, CBS, NBC, MSNBC and Fox News, according to Reuters.
The trial continued past 9:43 p.m. EST that night.
On Wednesday, Democrats laid out their argument on why Trump should be removed from office. The data, however, found that the audience shrunk by about 19 percent from Tuesday which was largely taken up by procedural matters, according to Reuters.
The ratings also do not include people who watched online livestreams of the trial.
Trump is charged with two articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
