Veteran ESPN broadcaster Steve Levy will be the next play-by-play announcer for ESPN's Monday Night Football, with former NFL quarterback-turned-commentator Brian Griese and ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick rounding out the team, according to a Friday report by sports and media writer Jim Miller.
Can confirm @JimMiller's excellent scoop:— Richard Deitsch (@richarddeitsch) July 31, 2020
Louis Riddick will be a Monday Night Football analyst this fall. Great news for those of us who have appreciated his preparation and honesty on air for years.
The Monday Night Football broadcast crew has changed several times in the past few years after decades of relative stability after the franchise launched in 1970 with Keith Jackson, Howard Cosell and Don Meredith on ABC.
Frank Gifford replaced Jackson in 1971 and remained MNF's play-by-play man until 1985. Al Michaels took over the following season and stayed until 2005 before going to NBC. Mike Tirico's stint as play-by-play announcer lasted from 2006 to 2015.
Turnover became more apparent in 2016, when Sean McDonough served two seasons. Joe Tessitore took over for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, but will now be replaced by Levy.
Levy and Griese have worked together in the booth for ESPN's college basketball for several seasons.
Lisa Salters will remain MNF's sideline reporter.
