A majority of Americans believe Russia tried to influence the 2016 presidential election, according to a new poll, and nearly 4 in 10 believe President Trump’s campaign colluded with Moscow in the meddling.
An ABC News/Washington Post poll published Wednesday morning found 56 percent believe Russia tried to meddle in the election, while 39 percent think Trump campaign aides intentionally tried to help them.
The findings also signal a partisan divide on the issue.
The poll found that 60 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents believe Trump’s campaign helped Russia influence the November election, while just 18 percent of Republican-leaning voters believe there was collusion among Trump aides and Russian officials.

Less than half of Americans reported optimism with lawmakers’ investigation into Russian election interference.
The poll found 41 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents believe the investigation will be conducted fairly, compared to 46 percent of Republican and Republican-leaning independents.
The ABC News/Washington Post poll surveyed 1,004 adults via phone interviews from April 17 to 20. The poll has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
