Chelsea Clinton on Tuesday said when it comes to bigotry there's "no compromise."

"There's no compromise with bigotry. The 14th Amendment repealed the abomination of the Constitution's '3/5ths compromise.'" Clinton tweeted, referencing the Founding Fathers' agreement to count the population of slaves as three-fifths in total when calculating a states' number of representatives.

Clinton also tweeted a quote by Jewish writer, activist and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, reading: "We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented."

Clinton's comments come after President Trump said in a press conference earlier in the day that "both sides" bear the blame for violence in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday.

Trump faced a barrage of questions from reporters about why he did not immediately condemn white supremacists by name after a woman was killed and more than a dozen were injured at the rally.

The president told journalists that he wanted to "know the facts" before expanding on his initial statements made Saturday.

“What about the alt-left that came charging at the, as you say, the alt-right?” Trump asked reporters.

"I will tell you something. I watched those very closely, much more closely than you people watched it,” Trump said on Tuesday. “And you had a group on one side that was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent. And nobody wants to say that. But I'll say it right now. You had a group on the other side that came charging in without a permit, and they were very, very violent.”
