WHCD host calls Trump ‘cowardly’ for skipping event again

Comedian Michelle Wolf called President TrumpDonald John TrumpUSPS warns Pennsylvania mail-in ballots may not be delivered in time to be counted Michael Cohen book accuses Trump of corruption, fraud Trump requests mail-in ballot for Florida congressional primary MORE "cowardly" for once again skipping the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

Wolf, who's headlining the event, said that even former President Reagan called into the dinner when he wasn't able to attend in 1981 following an assassination attempt.

"It’s nicer to make fun of someone when they’re there," she told "CBS This Morning" in an interview. "I think it’s cowardly not to go. The only other person that didn’t go was Reagan when he was shot. And he called in."

Wolf said she would prefer to make fun of Trump to his face, rather than behind his back.

It will be Trump's second year skipping the annual dinner, which brings journalists and government officials together to raise money for scholarships.

Trump, instead, held a campaign-style rally in Pennsylvania last year and is opting to hold a rally in Michigan during this year's event.
