Obama has frequently said that she will never run for political office, as have those closest to her, despite her popularity among Democrats.

She also repeats the declaration in her bestselling memoir, "Becoming."

Obama cited a number of reasons during the appearance at the girls club, according to the Post, including giving her daughters a break from a heavy security presence.

"My path has never been politics," she said. "I just happened to marry somebody whose passion was politics. Just because he likes it doesn’t mean that I like it!”

Obama announced on Sunday that she will cancel two stops on her book tour to attend the funeral of former President George H.W. Bush, who died on Friday.
