Giuliani’s ‘truth isn’t truth’ named most notable quote of 2018

Rudy Giuliani’s assertion that “truth isn’t truth” topped a Yale Law School librarian’s list for the most notable quotes of 2018, according to The Associated Press

The statement went viral in August after Giuliani, a personal attorney for President TrumpDonald John TrumpSarah Huckabee Sanders becomes Fox News contributor The US-Iranian scuffle over a ship is a sideshow to events in the Gulf South Korea: US, North Korea to resume nuclear talks 'soon' MORE, appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and discussed whether a presidential interview with special counsel Robert MuellerRobert (Bob) Swan MuellerMueller report fades from political conversation Trump calls for probe of Obama book deal Democrats express private disappointment with Mueller testimony MORE could be a “perjury trap.”

In response to moderator Chuck Todd's statement that “truth is truth,” Giuliani responded: “No, it isn’t truth. Truth isn’t truth.”

Giuliani said he was trying to make the point that an interview would be fruitless since Mueller and Trump were in disagreement over fundamental aspects of the special counsel’s inquiry.

"We have a credibility gap between the two of them," Giuliani went on to say. "You’ve got to select one or the other."

Giuliani’s quote is one of several on the list related to the president, including Trump’s January tweeted declaring himself a “stable genius.”

The list also featured several other political quotes, including Supreme Court Justice Brett KavanaughBrett Michael KavanaughMcConnell rejects Democrats' 'radical movement' to abolish filibuster Collins downplays 2020 threat: 'Confident' reelection would go well if she runs The exhaustion of Democrats' anti-Trump delusions MORE's comments about beer during his confirmation hearing, Meghan McCain's eulogy for her father and more.

“I liked beer. I still like beer," which was said by Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing, is second on the list.

Kanye West's remark about the "dragon energy" he and Trump share also made the list.

“You don’t have to agree with Trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone," West said in April.

That quote resulted in a strong backlash among liberals against the famed rapper and began a months-long controversy regarding the musician's relationship with the president.

The Yale list was first established in 2006 and is updated yearly with quotes that are famous or are believed to represent the times.
