Giuliani’s ‘truth isn’t truth’ named most notable quote of 2018

Rudy Giuliani’s assertion that “truth isn’t truth” topped a Yale Law School librarian’s list for the most notable quotes of 2018, according to The Associated Press

The statement went viral in August after Giuliani, a personal attorney for President TrumpDonald John TrumpCoast Guard chief: 'Unacceptable' that service members must rely on food pantries, donations amid shutdown Dem lawmaker apologizes after saying it's never been legal in US to force people to work for free Grassley to hold drug pricing hearing MORE, appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and discussed whether a presidential interview with special counsel Robert MuellerRobert Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russia probe MORE could be a “perjury trap.”

In response to moderator Chuck Todd's statement that “truth is truth,” Giuliani responded: “No, it isn’t truth. Truth isn’t truth.”

Giuliani said he was trying to make the point that an interview would be fruitless since Mueller and Trump were in disagreement over fundamental aspects of the special counsel’s inquiry.

"We have a credibility gap between the two of them," Giuliani went on to say. "You’ve got to select one or the other."

Giuliani’s quote is one of several on the list related to the president, including Trump’s January tweeted declaring himself a “stable genius.”

The list also featured several other political quotes, including Supreme Court Justice Brett KavanaughBrett Michael KavanaughSupreme Court agrees to review NYC gun restrictions Supreme Court refuses to hear coach's free speech case Kamala Harris staffer mocks O'Reilly for saying Harris 'lost' his vote for president MORE's comments about beer during his confirmation hearing, Meghan McCain's eulogy for her father and more.

“I liked beer. I still like beer," which was said by Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing, is second on the list.

Kanye West's remark about the "dragon energy" he and Trump share also made the list.

“You don’t have to agree with Trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone," West said in April.

That quote resulted in a strong backlash among liberals against the famed rapper and began a months-long controversy regarding the musician's relationship with the president.

The Yale list was first established in 2006 and is updated yearly with quotes that are famous or are believed to represent the times.
