Odessa police confirmed Sunday that just one shooter was involved in the Saturday attack that killed at least seven people.

Police initially thought multiple shooters might have been involved but later discovered a single suspect changed vehicles, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said during a news conference.

Gerke said officials are now “confident” just one shooter was involved.{mosads}

Gerke said he would not identify the suspected shooter publicly at the conference but will reveal that information later.

“I am not going to give him any notoriety for what he did,” Gerke said.

Police said the suspected shooter did have a criminal record and also died in the attack.

The shooting killed at least seven people and injured 22 more. Among those injured was a 17-month-old girl.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said the toddler’s mother told him in a text that her daughter is recovering and will have surgery Monday.

Police said the shooting is part of an ongoing investigation and did not reveal further details.

Officials confirmed the shooter used an AR-style rifle.

When asked if Texas is “doing enough” to restrict guns like AR-style rifles, Abbott said he is looking at a range of possible new laws but did not disclose details on possible proposals Texas is weighing.
