Video evidence undermines official reports on police partial blinding of George Floyd protesters: report
20-year-old man arrested in connection with viral video of nursing home beating
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Detroit over allegedly beating a 75-year-old nursing home resident.
The incident was taped and received heavy attention on social media, including from President Trump.
"Is this even possible to believe? Can this be for real? Where is this nursing home, how is the victim doing?" Trump wrote on Twitter.
The incident occurred at the Westwood Rehabilitation Nursing Center on May 15. A younger man who local NBC affiliate WDIV reported was a temporary resident at the facility can be seen in the video punching an older man.
Police made an arrest on Thursday, but the suspect's name has not been released.
Officials investigating the crime said the injuries to the older man were not thought to be life-threatening, the report added.
"What our investigation has revealed so far was the nursing home was unaware of an assault until they saw the video," Detroit police Chief James Craig said at a news conference Thursday.
Police in Detroit thanked the public for alerting the department to the video.
"Thank you to everyone for your assistance in bringing the senior home incident to our attention," the department said on social media. "The @detroitpolice is investigating the situation, and an arrest has been made."
