GOP Rep. Evan Jenkins has already announced a bid for Senate for the seat held by Democratic Sen. Joe ManchinJoseph (Joe) ManchinPoll: McConnell is most unpopular senator Dems open to killing filibuster in next Congress Trump nominees meet fiercest opposition from Warren, Sanders, Gillibrand MORE, and Morrisey is expected to run as well. Either could be a formidable challenge to Manchin.

Last month, Jenkins and Morrisey took to local radio to sharpen their attacks on one another ahead of an expected clash in the state's GOP Senate primary.

Morrisey slammed Jenkins, saying that the former Democrat comes with too much baggage from his old party to be trusted as a reliable conservative.

Manchin is seen as one of the most vulnerable Senate Democrats and represents a state easily won by President Trump in last year's election.

He is also facing a primary challenge from the left.
