"He's on the mend and we expect him back next week," McConnell told reporters in response to a question about whether he'd talked with Paul.
 
A spokesman for Paul declined to confirm McConnell's comments, saying when Paul returns to Washington is still to be determined.

Neighbors told The New York Times that the feud started due to a dispute over landscaping and yard care. Paul was reportedly mowing his lawn and wearing ear plugs when he was attacked.
 
"It was quite an experience. He was literally ... slammed into by a neighbor, and he has five either broken or cracked ribs and said it really hurt," McConnell said. 
 
With Paul absent, the Senate GOP has just 51 votes. 
 
Republicans are expected to unveil their tax plan this week, with the Senate Finance Committee taking it up next week.
