Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) on Tuesday offered praise for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), saying she has introduced “bold ideas that should be discussed.”

Harris, who made the comments during an interview on ABC’s “The View,” also said she thinks it is “fantastic” that Ocasio-Cortez is “challenging the status quo.”

“I think she is introducing bold ideas that should be discussed,” Harris said. “And I think it’s good for the party. I frankly think it’s good for the country.”

{mosads}”Let’s look at the bold ideas, and I’m eager that we have those discussions. And when we are able to defend the status quo, then do it. And if there’s not merit to that, then let’s explore new ideas,” she added.

Ocasio-Cortez earlier this week created headlines when, during a “60 Minutes” interview, she voiced support for a marginal tax rate of 60 or 70 percent on income over $10 million.

The freshman member has also pushed for legislation dubbed the “Green New Deal,” which aims to completely eliminate carbon emissions in the U.S. within 12 years.

“It’s ambitious,” Ocasio-Cortez said during the “60 Minutes” interview, referring to the carbon emissions goal. “It’s going to require a lot of rapid change that we don’t even conceive as possible right now. What is the problem with trying to push our technological capacities to the furthest extent possible?”
