Manchin sends McConnell jam after he’s quoted suggesting he’ll ‘crush him like a grape’
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) sent Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) a jar of jam Thursday after the Senate majority leader was quoted suggesting he would “crush [Manchin] like a grape.”
“I heard @senatemajldr wanted some #WV crushed grapes, so I dropped some off at his office today,” Manchin tweeted.

The quote comes from former White House adviser Cliff Sims’s new book, “Team of Vipers: My 500 Extraordinary Days in the Trump White House.”
{mosads}During a discussion about repealing the Affordable Care Act, or ObamaCare, in February 2017, Trump allegedly mentioned that Manchin might side with the GOP after McConnell said they would have to operate “without any Democratic votes.”
“Do we have to go after him like that?” Trump asked, according to Sims.
“Absolutely, Mr. President,” McConnell responded. “We’re going to crush him like a grape.”
The Senate later voted against the repeal, with no Democrats switching over and three Republicans choosing to oppose.
