Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Saturday criticized Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-Mass.) response to a town hall question about same-sex marriage earlier this week, saying it was condescending and would spark support from conservatives to fight back, “even in a crude or vulgar way.”

Warren’s response to a question at an LGBTQ forum on Thursday about what she’d say to someone who said their faith taught them that marriage was between one man and one woman drew plenty of attention. 

“Well, I’m going to assume it’s a guy who said that,” Warren replied. “I’m going to say, ‘Then just marry one woman. I’m cool with that.'”

{mosads}Warren’s response garnered laughter from the audience.

After the laughter subsided, Warren added, “Assuming you can find one,” which caused the crowd to burst into applause and more laughter. 

Rubio tweeted Saturday that Warren’s response would lead to a backlash among those who disagree with her.

Her answer “vividly captures the condescension of elites & their incessant ridicule of Americans with traditional values. It elicits glee among celebrities & blue check brigade,” Rubio tweeted.

“But for the millions sick of being disrespected it elicits support for fighting back, even in a crude or vulgar way,” Rubio continued.

Warren has emerged as a front-runner for the Democratic nomination in recent months, running either ahead of or closely behind former Vice President Joe Biden.
