Police investigating threat to ‘burn down’ offices of Muslim organization on Facebook page of right-wing group

Police in Portland, Ore., are investigating after a Facebook user posted a threat against a Muslim advocacy organization.

A Facebook user wrote the threat on the page for Patriot Prayer: “Can’t we just go burn down all the offices CAIR has?”

CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, is a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group. The Oregon chapter of CAIR reported the comment to authorities, according to The Oregonian.

{mosads}”Given all the recent hate attacks and threats targeting minority communities nationwide, it is incumbent on local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate this apparent call to violence against a civil rights organization,” said Zakir Khan, a spokesperson for CAIR’s Oregon chapter.

The comment surfaced the day after a donation website reportedly cut ties with Patriot Prayer after calls from social justice groups, including CAIR.

Joey Gibson, leader of Patriot Prayer, distanced himself from the message, telling the Oregonian: “I don’t think [CAIR] should be politicizing it and blame it on me. I don’t even understand why they have a problem with me.”

Gibson described the threats as “stupid,” “annoying” and “unfortunate,” according to the paper.

Patriot Prayer has made national headlines after a series of violent clashes in downtown Portland and other cities with local Antifa activists.
