‘Proud Boy’ threatens Portland mayor in Facebook video: report

A far-right activist reportedly posted a video on Facebook threatening Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) earlier this month.

Reggie Axtell, a member of the group “Proud Boys,” said in the video that Wheeler’s “days are f—ing numbered,” according to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Hatewatch.

“I promise you this, Ted Wheeler: I’m coming for you, you little punk,” Axtell said, according to the report. SPLC flagged the video last week.

A spokesman for Wheeler told The Guardian that the mayor receives “routine threats” that he views as a response to his being “a symbol of progressive values that [the far right] don’t share.”

{mosads}The threat comes as the Portland-area far-right group Patriot Prayer has started a “demasking” campaign to reveal the identities of anti-fascist counter-protesters by removing their masks and taking their photo.

Axtell, who has attended a number of Patriot Prayer marches, also reportedly said in the video that he would “unmask every antifa son of a bitch that I come across.”

Axtell did not respond to The Guardian’s request for comment.

Joey Gibson, leader of Patriot Prayer, told The Guardian that Axtell’s threat against Wheeler was a threat to “his job,” not his safety, but said that he had not watched the video closely.

Patriot Prayer and antifa protesters have repeatedly clashed, often violently, at a series of rallies in Portland over the past year.

Another Patriot Prayer member has also pushed a recall effort against Wheeler, according to The Guardian.
