Tom Good, the registered agent for a fundraising arm involved in the recall effort, told the Greeley Tribune that the Facebook group has no party affiliation.

“[There’s] currently no involvement whatsoever by the [Colorado] GOP,” he told the Colorado newspaper. “I plan to keep it that way, if I can. … No party affiliation here; just good, hard-working Coloradans who want to save their state from this overreaching agenda.”

The page has gone by previous names including Recall Hickenlooper 2017, referring to then-Gov. John Hickenlooper (D), who is now a 2020 presidential candidate. It was also once called Keeping Colorado Officials Accountable.

Before Polis took office in January, the page had a little more than a thousand members, according to the Greeley Tribune. Polis previously served as a House lawmaker in Congress.

The current group cites Polis's support of a measure to award his state’s electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote as the main reason for the recall effort, saying his position is in "total disregard to whether or not the citizens of the state would approve."

Polis's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

An issue committee and a related 527 political organization filed paperwork this month to start the “Official Recall Colorado Governor Jared Polis” movement, which would be able to draft a petition for recall.

In order to get the recall effort on the ballot, the group would have to collect 631,266 signatures in 60 days after the petition format is approved, according to the Tribune.

A petition could not be started until six months into Polis's term.
