New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) blasted the electricity company responsible for a massive power outage over the weekend, saying Con Edison should have been better prepared.

“We've been through this situation w ConEd time & again & they should have been better prepared—period,” Cuomo tweeted Sunday night.

More than 45,000 New York City residents were reportedly still without power as of Sunday night as a record-breaking heat wave swept through the Midwest and hit the East Coast.

Cuomo said he was deploying state troopers along with light towers and generators in an attempt to combat the power outage.

The outage is reportedly due to the heat and high usage rates in the city. Most of the blackouts are hitting the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens.

A statement from Con Edison early Monday morning said the company had restored power to roughly 13,000 customers in Brooklyn and expected more progress to be made throughout the day.
