"CTU has told us they will continue their strike, which means classes will not be in session tomorrow, 10/18," CPS tweeted Thursday evening, referring to the Chicago Teacher's Union.

According to the newspaper, there was progress made between the Chicago Teacher's Union and Mayor Lori Lightfoot, but no concrete deal yet.

In addition to higher wages, Chicago teachers also want smaller class sizes, nurses, social workers and librarians in every school and more special education assistants and case managers.

Lightfoot tried to compromise on the pay demands, offering a 16 percent pay increase over five years, but the teachers rejected the offer, seeking a 15 percent raise over three years.
