Axios in a report on Sunday cited Democratic donors who said the former vice president would consider Cuomo, who also served as attorney general for New York before becoming governor in 2011, for the Cabinet position.

However, when pressed about the report on NBC's “Today” the following morning, Cuomo said he wasn't interested in going to Washington, despite his close ties with Biden.

Cuomo said that if he were approached by Biden about the role, “I would say, ‘You are an old friend you are a good friend. You’re going to win this election. You’re going to be the president. I’ll help you anyway I can.'”

But, Cuomo went on, “I’m a New Yorker. I said I would serve as governor and those rumors those are only from people who want to get me out of New York. I don’t know why, but that’s where that’s coming from.”

“I have no interest in going to Washington. I said when this COVID situation started, just so I had total credibility with the people of the state, I’m not running for president. I’m not running for vice president. I don’t want to go to Washington. I just am giving you the straight advice as your governor and that’s where I am.”

Cuomo made similar remarks back in June during an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

At the time, Cuomo pointed to his past role as secretary of Housing and Urban Development under the Clinton administration, saying: “I was in a Cabinet, I was in Bill ClintonWilliam (Bill) Jefferson ClintonOne-termers: What Trump can learn from Carter and Bush's re-election losses Biden's climate plans can cut emissions and also be good politics Trump says he'll leave White House if Biden declared winner of Electoral College MORE’s Cabinet, been there, done that.”

“I don’t want to go to Washington. They couldn’t drag me, they couldn’t force me. I only represent the people of the state, I have no agenda besides theirs,” he said then.
