One killed, five wounded in Easter shooting at Alabama park

One person was killed and several others were wounded in Alabama on Sunday night after an argument at a park erupted in gun fire.

"At the time the shooting occurred, hundreds of people were gathered at the park celebrating the Easter Holiday when gunfire erupted," police in Birmingham said, according to CNN.

Officers said when they arrived at the scene shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday they found 32-year-old Areyelle Yarbrough lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said five other people were shot during the incident, including four children ages 5 to 17, the outlet reported, all of whom were listed in stable condition at a local hospital.

No arrests have been made in connection with Sunday night's shooting.

Police said they believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation between "two groups of males which escalated to an exchange of gunfire in the crowded park."

Evidence collected indicates more than 30 rounds were fired, police said.

"This park was full of people, full of families and we know people saw things," Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said, according to CNN.
