Sen. John KennedyJohn Neely KennedyMORE (R-La.) shared his rendition of Matt Monro’s “Born Free” this week in an effort to encourage Louisiana residents to get the coronavirus vaccine.

In a video posted to Twitter, the republican senator belted out the first few lines of the song.

"Born free, as free as the wind blows, as free as the grass grows, born free to follow your heart," he sang.

"Live free, and beauty surrounds you, the world still astounds you, each time you look at a star."

The senator acknowledged that while his forte may not be music, he is "free" because of the coronavirus vaccine.

"I'm senator John Kennedy. I can't sing very well, but I'm free," he said. "Get the vaccine. I did. It works."

Several commenters thanked the senator for his message, noting that it encouraged them.

Louisiana has seen nearly 448,838 coronavirus cases and 10,216 coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to The New York Times.

Currently, about 20 percent of the state has been fully vaccinated with 29 percent receiving at least one dose of the vaccine.
