Former Democratic National Committee interim chairwoman Donna Brazile on Sunday said President TrumpDonald John TrumpMichael Flynn transcripts reveal plenty except crime or collusion 50 people arrested in Minneapolis as hundreds more National Guard troops deployed Missouri state lawmaker sparks backlash by tweeting 'looters deserve to be shot' MORE “is betting on himself” when it comes to his willingness to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

During an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Brazile said Trump is “not prepared” to meet with Kim about North Korea’s nuclear program.

“President Trump is betting on himself. He's not prepared, Jonathan. That's the problem,” she told ABC’s Jonathan Karl.

“There's no one at the State Department to brief him. We have no ambassador to South Korea. The national security adviser who focuses on this issue has been on paternity leave. So, once again, the president is betting on himself.”

Brazile’s comments come as lawmakers and administration officials mull a possible face to face meeting between Trump and Kim after a South Korean delegation met with Kim last week. South Korean national security adviser Chung Eui-Yong said Kim wants to halt nuclear weapons testing and meet with Trump for discussions.

But Brazile on Sunday questioned whether Trump is ready for a high-stakes meeting that would be the first between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader.

“Will he be prepared? Will the president understand what's at stake?” Brazile asked.

“You know, these are technical issues — the sanctions, the nuclear nonproliferation, will he be prepared? We don't know.”
