Lanny Davis: Giuliani needs to be replaced

Longtime Hillary Clinton ally Lanny Davis said Sunday that he believes President Trump needs to replace attorney Rudy Giuliani because of the former New York City mayor's comments about a payment to adult-film star Stormy Daniels.

Davis, a contributor to The Hill, said on "Fox News Sunday" that he believes Giuliani will be subpoenaed over whether the $130,000 payment to Daniels as part of a nondisclosure agreement constituted a campaign contribution.

"I think that there's at least an argument that by speaking publicly about a conversation with the president that he becomes a fact witness on a crucial question," Davis said.

Davis referenced Giuliani's comments to Fox News last week that Trump reimbursed his attorney, Michael Cohen, for the $130,000 payment to Daniels, who alleges she had an affair with Trump in 2006.

Giuliani, who was hired to represent Trump in the Russia probe a few weeks ago, explained to Fox News host Sean Hannity that the money was "funneled through a law firm."

The president denied in April that he was aware of the payment.

After Giuliani's comments, Trump tweeted that he'd paid Cohen a monthly retainer, which covered the cost of the $130,000 payment.

Giuliani has denied that the payment violated campaign finance laws, and on Sunday morning downplayed it as a "nuisance payment."
