Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said Sunday that he expects House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to be elected Speaker in the next session of Congress, despite some opposition from within her own party.

“She most certainly has my support. I would do anything I can to make sure that she’s the Speaker,” Nadler said on ABC’s “This Week.”

“I think there are a number of people who won’t support her, but I think she will have the overwhelming support of the Democratic caucus and I think she will be elected Speaker,” he added.

{mosads}Nadler, who is expected to become the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee as a result of Democrats retaking control of the House in the midterms, credited Pelosi with getting the Affordable Care Act passed, and hailed her as “one of the finest legislative craftspeople of our time.”

Pelosi has said in the wake of the midterms that she’s confident she will be elected Speaker. However, numerous freshmen lawmakers and some current representatives have said they’d like to see a change in leadership, presenting a potential obstacle for Pelosi to get the required votes for the position.

The Speaker must receive votes from a majority of House members in the new session of Congress.

President Trump endorsed Pelosi for the role following the midterms, saying “deserves” the job.
