Fox News to offer live Sunday night election program

Fox News is expanding its live programming on Sunday nights as election coverage jumps into a higher gear across the entire media landscape.
{mosads}A source close to the situation tells The Hill that the network’s chief political anchor, Bret Baier, will begin hosting an additional edition of his “Special Report” from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays starting Sept. 11. The program’s primary focus will be the 2016 presidential election.
The network confirmed the report to The Hill.
The program will run through Nov. 6, two days before Election Day, Fox News confirmed Wednesday night.
Fox News’s 10-part series “Legends & Lies” had run in the Sunday 8 p.m. hour time slot between June 5 and August 7. The network offered a rerun of the program on Aug. 14.
“Special Report” currently airs weeknights at 6 p.m.
Election coverage has been a ratings boon for Fox News despite recent changes at the top of the network, namely the July 21 resignation of former CEO and Chairman Roger Ailes amid allegations of sexual harassment.
According to Nielsen, during the week of Aug. 8, Fox News topped all basic cable networks as the most-watched channel in prime time, with 1.8 million viewers.
Winning the ratings race in this instance is especially noteworthy, as many NBC cable properties were offering Olympic programming in prime time, while NFL preseason games — in the past a relatively big draws — were featured on ESPN.
Fox News has ranked No. 1 of prime time basic cable networks nine of the past 10 weeks.
