Joe Scarborough is taking the cable news morning-show wars to a new level.
The MSNBC “Morning Joe” host referred to CNN’s Chris Cuomo as “unhinged” in a Vanity Fair interview published Thursday.
"You have to take whatever Chris Cuomo says or retweets with a grain of salt," Scarborough said of the “New Day” host.
"Unfortunately, he's obviously unhinged by something. We've never said anything bad about him, never said anything negative about the show, never said anything negative about the show. But he apparently is becoming unhinged for some reason."
Scarborough was apparently responding to a tweet by Cuomo last month referring to him and co-host Mika Brzezinski as longtime “boosters” of Donald TrumpDonald TrumpHarris stumps for McAuliffe in Virginia On The Money — Sussing out what Sinema wants Hillicon Valley — Presented by Xerox — The Facebook Oversight Board is not pleased MORE who were practically “spokesmen” for the president-elect during Trump's campaign.
The MSNBC hosts have been accused by some of being too close to Trump, but Scarborough and Brzezinski both criticized and praised the Republican often throughout the campaign.
Trump has returned fire often on Twitter, insisting he wouldn’t watch “Morning Joe” and slamming the show’s ratings and insulting the hosts.
Trump has also frequently attacked CNN, accusing them of bias against him.
On the ratings front, "Morning Joe” has topped “New Day” recently in both the race for total viewers and the key 25–54 demographic that advertisers covet most.
According to Neilsen research, MSNBC has now beaten CNN for six straight quarters in total viewers and three straight quarters in the demographic.
Scarborough is a former Republican congressman from Florida. Cuomo is the son of former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo and brother of current Gov. Andrew Cuomo, both Democrats.
