Steve Knight will represent California’s 25th District after serving in the state Legislature. He is filling the seat of retiring House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon (R) after defeating former state Sen. Tony Strickland, a fellow Republican, in the general election.

Knight previously was Palmdale’s vice mayor and a member of its city council. He is the son of the late state Sen. William Knight, who sponsored the 2000 California law enacted by voters to restrict same-sex marriage.

Before entering politics, Knight served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Friedberg, Germany. Upon his return home, Knight served as a police officer in Los Angeles for 18 years.

Knight lives in Palmdale, Calif., with his wife, Lily, and their two children.
