Mark Takai will take Rep. Colleen Hanabusa’s (D) seat following her unsuccessful run for Senate. Takai will represent the Honolulu metro area and the plains of Oahu in Hawaii’s 1st District.

He has served in the Hawaii State House of Representatives and co-owns an insurance brokerage and consulting firm, Pacific First Enterprises, with his wife Sami. In his legislative career, Takai has advocated for educational and veterans issues.

He is also a lieutenant colonel and preventive medical officer in the Hawaii National Guard. He has served 15 years in the guard and was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009.

Takai lives in Aiea with his wife, Sami, 10-year-old daughter Kaila and 12-year-old son Matthew.
