The radical Democratic Party is showing its true colors yet again. It is now directly targeting the Americans in uniform risking their lives for the sake of our security. The four Democrats wrote that they have seen “rampant spending on detention facilities for young children” and that the deal reached by the conference committee “should not allocate any additional funding” to these two important agencies. They add that the annual budget process will be a “critical opportunity to take up conversations about reforms” and that “not another dollar” of funding should be allocated to the agencies.

According to these Democrats, immigration and border officials are guilty of intentionally misdirecting funds to “build desert camps to inhumanely house infants and to prosecute immigrants who are part of the fabric of our community” instead of making our nation safer. “These agencies have promulgated an agenda driven by hate,” they wrote, articulating the essence of the new Democratic Party agenda.

Gone are the calls to compromise on security. Gone are the promises to fix our broken immigration system by reinforcing our border. Instead, Democrats are openly declaring that they do not want our immigration laws enforced at all. As Aldous Huxley noted, “Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.” The facts show that we are facing a serious humanitarian and security crisis on our southern border, and the work done by immigration and border agents is not only vital for the safety of Americans, but also for the safety of the illegal immigrants themselves.

The illegal drug trade costs taxpayers more than $500 billion every year, according to the White House. The Federation for American Immigration Reform estimates that the annual cost of illegal immigration to taxpayers is about $116 billion. Several years ago, the Government Accountability Office had reported more than 25,000 arrests for homicide committed by criminal aliens since the 1950s. Meanwhile, some 80 percent of women and girls are raped as they make the journey to cross the southern border.

Coincidentally, there are several stark reminders of the ongoing tragedy around the same time that the letter became public. Immigration and Customs Enforcement recently revealed that its agents arrested more than 100 migrants who had previous criminal convictions, including for assault and weapons charges, last month. Customs and Border Protection announced that its officers seized more than 250 pounds of fentanyl last week, marking the largest bust of that drug in the history of the agency.

Criminals who enter this country illegally should never become part of the “fabric of our community.” That is precisely why we need to embrace, not condemn, the many brave Americans who risk their lives every day for our security.
