Feehery: The left's phony concerns about democracy, civil war

As we enter into our third year of COVID-19 panic, there is no doubt that the American people are getting fed up with the nonsense that is continuously spewed by the so-called experts.

But does that mean that the American people are ready to throw in the towel on democracy and throw in with an authoritarian dictatorship?

That is certainly the view of some left-wing pundits and politicians.

Ron Brownstein, who once wrote a book called “The Second Civil War” a decade ago, asked the question, “Can one political party defend American democracy on its own?” He was talking about the Democrats and their efforts to make it easier for the Democrats to elect more Democrats.

David Brooks, who used to call himself a conservative, claimed, “When it comes to elections, the Republican Party operates within a carapace of lies. So, we rely on the Democrats to preserve our system of government.”

Joel Mathis, a progressive writer, hinted at a bigger fear, “The biggest threat to American democracy is not that Donald TrumpDonald TrumpDeputy AG: DOJ investigating fake Trump electors Former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz elected to Baseball Hall of Fame Overnight Health Care — Senators unveil pandemic prep overhaul MORE will steal the 2024 presidential election, but that he’ll win it outright.”

In other words, Trump will subvert democracy by winning a democratically decided election.

The intelligentsia claim that we are already too far down the road down to Civil War. Stephen Marche, a Canadian writer, wrote that the elite in America has its head too far in the sand about the truth of American unity: “The United States today is, once again, headed for civil war, and, once again, it cannot bear to face it.”

Another scholar, Barbara Walter, a professor at the University of California at San Diego, wrote another book called “How Civil Wars start and how to stop them,” and she told Paul Brandus:

“No one wants to believe that their beloved democracy is in decline, or headed toward war. … Looking at events in America the same way you’d look at them elsewhere, you’d go down a checklist, assessing each of the conditions that make civil war likely. And what you would find is that the United States, a democracy founded more than two centuries ago, has entered very dangerous territory.”

The scholars all reached the same conclusion as Brownstein: Change the election laws to make it easier for Democrats to win more elections.

What a bunch of self-serving garbage!

I have an idea. How about we go back to the same voting laws that we had when Barack ObamaBarack Hussein ObamaWhat does the Preamble to the Constitution have to do with Build Back Better? White House underscores action amid violent crime streak Biden frustration with Fox News breaks through surface MORE won two presidential elections?

The biggest threat to the left is not some right-wing putsch.

The biggest threat to the left is their own stupid ideas.

The American people don’t want more lockdowns. They don’t want their kids being forced to stay at home because of a cold virus. They don’t want vaccine mandates, although most are more than happy to take the vaccine.

They don’t want the violence in the streets that have sprung directly from the defund the police movement and the rise of liberal prosecutors who won’t prosecute crimes.

The American people want their kids to learn things that will help them to succeed in life, not the nonsense that has spewed forth from far-left activists. The American people are against the destruction of women’s sports because of some strange effort to make boys into girls.

What the American people certainly don’t want is for Washington politicians and left-wing activists to tell them what they can say or what they can do or how they pray or how their kids learn or how many masks they have to wear, etc.

What the American people want is to live in peace and in freedom.

Thank the dear Lord that we have a federalist system, where the American people can move to escape the persecution of the loony left if they can’t handle the nuttiness in blue cities anymore. And thank God we have elections, where we can tell these same “progressives” where they can stick their masks after Election Day is over.

H.L. Mencken once said that democracy is the theory that common people know what it wants and deserve to get it good and hard. The left is going to get it good and hard in the next election. That’s not civil war. It’s democracy.
