House subpanel moves defense bill
That amount is still $28 billion above the spending caps currently
in law due to sequestration, just as the Obama administration’s budget was
above the 2014 caps.
{mosads}The bill does contain $85.8 billion in funding for the war in
Afghanistan, which is $5.1 billion above what the Pentagon requested. That funding
does not affect the sequester budget caps.
The bill also blocked funding for moving detainees from Guantánamo
Bay to the United States, and prohibits modifying facility in the U.S. to house
detainees.
The provisions, which are also in the House’s defense authorization
bill that’s being marked up by the Armed Services Committee on Wednesday, push
back against President Obama’s renewed push to close Guantánamo.
