Report: CIA seeks expanded drone fleet

In North Africa, the focus on al Qaeda groups centers on al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), particularly in Libya and Mali.

The CIA’s move toward drone strikes, as opposed to espionage, is part of a blending of traditional roles between the agency and the military. While the CIA has “borrowed” drones in the past from the Joint Special Operations Command, according to the Post, the CIA’s request shows that CIA Director David Petraeus thinks there are limits to that style of relationship.

White House, Pentagon and CIA officials declined to comment for the story.
